Are Veneers Right for You?
Porcelain veneers have enjoyed a huge surge in popularity. In part, they have a great reputation because they can address such a wide range of cosmetic issues. Their functions include:
- Concealing flaws: Once they are attached to your teeth, veneers can conceal severe stains, other discoloration, chips, and small surface cracks.
- Improving the shape of your teeth: Veneers can enhance worn or proportionately small teeth, and improve the appearance of irregularly shaped teeth.
- Alternative to orthodontics: If you are concerned with minor misalignment, veneers can easily address these issues. Veneers can close small gaps in your smile and even alter the appearance of slightly crooked teeth.
Before choosing porcelain veneers, you will have a complete consultation with one of our dentists. Your dentist will use our unique simulator to show you what your smile will look like after treatment. Together, you will decide whether veneers are the right option for your needs.
The Placement Process
After determining your candidacy for veneers, your dentist will remove a tiny amount of enamel from the front of your teeth. This step simply makes room for the porcelain, so that your veneers can lie flush against your gums. In addition to traditional veneers, we also offer LUMINEERS®, a type of minimal preparation veneer. LUMINEERS® are extremely thin and can be attached with little to no alteration to your natural tooth structure.
Next, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth and we will send them to an offsite lab. Ceramists will craft your veneers, designed to specifically mimic the shape and color of your teeth. Fabrication typically takes about two weeks, after which you will return for your second appointment. At this time, your dentist will attach the veneers using dental cement. After your second visit, you should enjoy full dental functionality and an instantly enhanced smile.
Benefits and Risks
Porcelain veneers are a low-risk treatment. Because the dentist will remove some enamel from your teeth, you may experience some initial sensitivity. However, this side effect typically dissipates within a few weeks. Porcelain veneers are not permanent and will eventually need to be replaced. Nevertheless, with proper care, the porcelain could last a decade or more.
Cosmetic treatment with veneers offers tremendous benefits. First, they can completely transform your smile, and you can address many of your cosmetic concerns at once. Second, it is easy to care for veneers, and you will simply need to maintain routine oral hygiene. Additionally, veneers are highly lifelike. Not only are they custom-made for your smile, they also have a unique sheen and translucence that makes them nearly indistinguishable from dental enamel.
